The greatest all-time single-player performance in NBA basketball happened on March 28th, 1990. In a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, 27-year-old Michael Jordan played all 50 minutes of regulation and overtime and turned in this jaw-dropping line:
Once upon a time, I wrote only about topics I knew well. But those days are long gone.
Back then, I wrote local news articles for my school’s newspaper. I adopted a dog and blogged about how I took care of her. I wrote technical documents in my work as a software engineer. I documented my own life in various diaries and journals.
School news, dog care, tech docs, reflections on my own life. You know, topics I have at least some level of expertise in.
Becoming a freelance writer has changed all that.
Now, this isn’t me becoming all…
I was just passing time on YouTube when the bombshell news dropped. “Kobe Bryant Dead in Helicopter Crash,” headlines read, all of which were corroborated way too quickly.
Disbelief. I got out of my chair and flipped through my closet to find my Kobe jersey. Wearing it, I went about my day — dog park, grocery shopping, cooking — all while my mind was mostly blank.
It didn’t truly hit me until later that evening when I decided to tune into the NBA. Before one of the games, the broadcast featured a Kobe Bryant tribute, a montage of all his…
A year ago, in early March 2020, I was wrapping up a 1-on-1 with my then-manager at work. These were the times when something “might” have been going around, and my manager mentioned that he‘d “maybe” work from home (WFH) in the short-term.
By the end of the day, all the “might’s” and “maybe’s” became “definitely’s.” Our company told everyone to work remotely until the end of March.
From then on, everything happened so fast. I went home for a while. We quarantined. But cases climbed. WFH guidance got extended to May. Then October. Then July 2021.
It’s been a…
Yuna, my yellow Lab rescue, is now five. As I’m about to let her devour a piece of her gorgeous “Barkday” cake, I can’t help but think how crazy it was that she almost didn’t make it.
I usually don’t hype up birthdays, but Yuna turning five is absolutely a big deal. Because as of today, I can claim that she has successfully doubled her life expectancy.
Had things run their natural course, Yuna might have met her end prematurely two and a half years ago.
So while today is a festive day full of head scratches, belly rubs, and…
Of all the places I’ve visited in my life, nothing quite compares to Hawaii.
I had been to the Aloha State once before. So this time, when I stepped back on the warm, tropical soil of O’ahu, I already had an idea of what to expect.
You’ve all heard Hawaii described as a land of paradise. And paradise we found, stretching from the quiet, pristine shores at Hanauma Bay to the more animated, aggressive waves of the North Shore.
O’ahu was our home for two weeks. Masks and adventure caps on, we walked, hiked, swam, and drove our rented Chevy…
